Patches...and Try-Its

Brownie Girl Scout Try-Its are designed to introduce new activities, to develop new skills, hobbies, and fun activities.  Girls need to be encouraged to try new things.  They do not need to perfect them or even complete them.  They are truly designed for girls to “try it” and see if they like it.

In order to complete a Try-It, girls must complete four of the six activities. It is recommended that the girls earn no more than nine Try-Its per year.

Activity or participation patches, however, are slightly different. Some are "fun patches" that you can get just for coming to a party. These patches can be worn on the back of your vest. Triangular try-it patches are worn on the front.

When will we get our patches? If you go to an event, and you receive a patch to wear (try-it or otherwise) please feel free to wear it as soon as you can attach it. As for the patches we work on together, they will be presented at the Court of Awards ceremonies, held at regular intervals throughout the year.

Q.  Where can we find a list of the awards and the requirements?
A. You will find most of the awards in your daughter’s age level books. If your daughter does not have the books for her age level, you may purchase them through our Council Shop, or at the Hobby Shop.  You can shop online or you can visit our Council Shop in Farmingdale, NJ.

Safety Patch

One of the first award patches we can learn is the Safety patch. You can get most of the information online, through the National website.
